I won’t even get into the environmental effects of drilling every last drop of oil out of the earth. Why do you scoff at alternative energy, when all you’re doing is helping some government fat-cats line their pockets? Where’s the benefit to you? No matter what your political stance, we’re all paying upwards of $80-$100 or more for a full tank of gas, so why do some people seem so gung-ho about continuing to use oil? Is it fear of change, or have they just convinced you that alternative fuels are “crazy hippie liberal” ideas so you’re automatically opposed?

Please, someone give me an intelligent answer.

Thanks I didn’t say anything about ethanol – the ethanol craze has helped drive up food prices and cause famine in other areas of the world (remember that next time you’re stuffing chili-cheese fries in your mouth). There are lots of other options besides ethanol.
Bill H – Do you expect this to happen overnight? We have to start now, because even if we do drill, we’re going to run out eventually, then you really will be looking for that solar-powered car and the technology will be years in the future.
Dadvice – I certainly don’t profess to have all the answers. My career path took me to hydrology, not alternative fuel research unfortunately. The only thing I know for sure is that we will run out of oil, sooner than we think, and I can not afford to fill up my tank right now. One hundred dollars is a pretty good chunk of my monthly budget, and if I drove everywhere I would have to fill it up 2-3 times/month. Luckily I have a bike, which I ride to the store and to work. But the time is now to figure something out, so we don’t run out and have no alternatives. I would also appreciate air-fare going back down, as I like to travel <img
