Do you think we will use an alternative fuel before we actually start to run out of oil and natural gas or will we wait until we just have about a years worth left to start looking into other means of power like Solar, Nuclear, Fusion, Wind, Hydraulic power, Geothermal, etc.
Put it this way run out of easy to get to oil

I think we will try to find an alternative fuel before we actually run out (like right now) or we might not find one in time if we look just years before. And if we don’t find one then we will live without heat and power (since most electricity is generated by oil and natural gas) until they find one. So they are looking for some right now. Take for example the cars that run partially on electricity, the cars that run on hydrogen, and the buses that run on cooking oil.
No.
We make a half hearted attempt at finding alternative sources of energy. If you read message boards and forums, we are a fat, lazy society. When people talk about how we have it better than other countries, in the fact that our fuel prices are lower, we demand it to be that way. The big auto makers still crank out oversized gas guzzling vehicles because that’s what we want.
Sure, there is a grass root effort. But the masses outcry the few. Only the serious people conscious about their future try to do anything.
We already are using alternative fuels and energy sources. For example, in Sweden, about half of their gasoline is ‘E85′ ehtanol-gasoline blend, and half of their electricity is prodcuced from nuclear. In the US, about 20% of electricity comes from nuclear reactors and bio-fuel usage is increasing.
We will NEVER completely run out of oil and natural gas, its just a function of economics. Assuming a constant rate of consumption and no environmental problem (such as greenhouse gases) or some other factor that affects the demand, the price of oil will have to increase as the supply diminishes. That’s basic economics – supply and demand determine the price. As the price goes up, energy companies will be able to recover oil from deeper reserves, smaller reserves, more remote locations, and lower grades, as well as start providing alternative sources at a profit. Not only that, oil companies will be motivated to carry out exploration to look for new oil and natural gas deposits as the price goes up.
At some point the price of oil could get so high that there will no longer be any economically recoverable oil. But its more likely that the price of oil gets so high that nobody will buy it anymore, so we go back to the supply and demand fundamentals, and the price goes down. That has the direct consequence of encouraging better use of our conventional energy sources and increasing the use of alternative fuels and energy sources.
So it all comes down to affordability. People in many third world countries can’t afford oil today, but in North America and Europe we are complaining but can still afford it.
There’s no question we need to reduce our energy and resource demand and start making better use of our existing resources, but we will not run out of oil.
Of course. Techs and researchers are already coming up with great alternates. By the time we find and utilize it we will still have gas but it will be unnecessary.
There will always be enough oil for mankind on this planet until God returns.
God made it very CLEAR, that he will supply ALL our needs, that includes oil.
Men are the ones creating shortages to get into your pocketbook.
God forbid that we might run out of liars though……….lets make alternative fuel out of them……………
it all depends on how many people speak up to use it
i think well start to make the switch as we begin to run out and it gets really expensive, by then crude oil will be more expensive than say, biofuels from sugarcane(brazil already runs off of this). btw, this is expected to happen in the next 50 years
The way it’s worded, you should have asked ages ago. But it looks like there will be some crises here and there and then humanity will pull throuh with diversified sources of energy. We’re fairly clever beasts when motivated.
Sorry to the poster that said otherwise, but I don’t think petroleum was part of the contract from god. The bible mentions oil, but it doesn’t necessarily mean petroleum. food water shelter and clothing are needs, but petroleum is just a neat thing we’ve found to mess around with in the past few generations.
well im not high enough to thumbs up yet but i just wanted to say i like fuzzys answer and definently agree
