And don’t tell me that he’ll find alternative sources of energy that are environmentally friendly, because we still need some source of fuel to put in our cars so people can drive them until they find this “alternative” fuel.

The changes needed can be brought about to a significant degree within a year. A year!… with financial investment in the new technologies (as has been happening already in other countries). Then rather than bringing down the prices at the pump, we can bring down the pump… within five years, realistically!
Obama said the other day that there really is no quick fix and that people should try to understand it is not going back to the low prices we have enjoyed.

Honestly though for short term their isn’t a whole lot we can do at this moment. Off Shore drilling and gas tax holidays aren’t the answer.
I believe it involves taking all the money we give to the oil industry to **** us at the pump, and using it to pursue alternative fuels. Until then we are at the mercy of OPEC, if something could be done about it, the genius Bush would be doing it. Or did you just 30 people to get on here and tell you that drilling more oil off our coasts will solve the problem?

who cares what his plan is because McCain’s plan or anybody Else’s will work. It’s sheer common sense that prices at the pump will continue to rise until the world’s oil supply has completely diminished. If you really going to vote for the guy who’s energy policy focuses on lowering gas prices, rather than the guy that wants the American consumer and American business to explore alternative energy sources, then you my friend have some issues. The only benefit of McCain’s plan is that he’ll die before oil runs out, yet the rest of America will be stuck here suffering from poor planning from our elders. Not only is Obama’s plan better for the future of our economy, it is also better for the environment as well.

If I was Obama I would call for price hikes on all fossile fuels with the proceeds going toward alternative fuel discoverys.

They are the best in the industries and their profit margin is not excessive at all…you don’t hear dems talk about profit margin..they talk about size of the profit. Just to set the record straight — McCain doesn’t support anything.
…why doesn’t he tell us what he’ll do for us if we elect him, rather than continually telling us what Obama won’t do. I McCain wants my vote, he needs to tell me what he’ll do for me, and he isn’t doing that.
I don’t know but I’m sure it has something to do with this trip to Iraq. Obama is probably over there selling our souls to the Devil. So he can get lower gas prices and show all of America right before the election that he can. Obama will stop at nothing to get a vote.

What’s ironic is that Obama’s got the straight talk on this issue. He’s not just going to give some useless summer gas tax break or try drilling for a minimal amount of oil that we won’t even see for a couple decades. In this case, taxes are the hard reality. If we don’t tax gas, people will continue to drive huge cars. Let’s face it, if you’ve got half the country driving Suburbans and F-350s, you just can’t expect the price of oil to go down. Furthermore, Obama would end the subsidies for these vehicles, which was pretty much put in place by the oil industry in the first place. And then subsidize “alternative” vehicles such as EVs. Go to Teslamotors.com and you’ll see that ending oil consumption isn’t that far fetched. Build solar power plants and wind farms >in the united states< and you’ve got yourself plenty of cheap energy to drive battery powered cars while creating loads of jobs in America without running oil rigs up and down our beautiful coast line.
