They know they need to find different ways to stimulate car sales and get the manufacturing sector on a better pace. And of course they still need to be safe, well-made, fuel-efficient, and even run on alternative fuel sources. But do you think now’s the time, considering we are in the 21st century, after all, that they become much more liberal-minded regarding all of the newest innovations that are available?
Something like a Star Trek “shields are up” device during a hail storm.
What “space-age” item would you like to see included on an automobile?

I would just like to see some of the things they have been promising us for years become reality.
The Chevy Volt which GM is dragging their feet.
An affordable hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. Again, GM is dragging their feet. The Hywire concept was shown several years ago.
Anything to get us away from using foreign oil and use a cheap fuel that can be produced domestically.
And I would like to see quality vehicles that are more affordable to the common man. What the manufacturers haven’t figured out that most of their problems are because they are selling cars that most people can not afford. I would like to see a nice well equipped car for less than $15,000. Most of the cars made today in this price range are little pieces of crap econo boxes.
Well, first of all, they would have to be affordable as the only stable jobs in the country seem to be Walmart jobs.
Secondly, I have ALWAYS wanted a car that could beam messages to other cars telling them important information like: your kid keeps mooning me, your turn signal has been on for about 5 minutes, you’re stupid, get off the road…etc.
And a rocket launcher on the top of said car would only be bonus.
I’d be happy if they just sold me a car that worked. I can live without all the electronic toys and and invasive driver aids. Just give me a vehicle that isn’t built to a price point and doesn’t keep falling apart. If they could do that I wouldn’t even care what it looked like.
1. windsheild wiper de-icer
2. automatic high-beam shut-off/on (duhno how they’d do that)
3. lane-departure warnings if blinkers not on
4. drive-by satelite
5. communications between stoplight and car to minimize un-necessary stops
6. steering wheel heater/cooler (for those really sunny or really cold days).
7. memory rear view mirror (not the side mirror but the one on the windsheild).
8. flywheels or springs braking system to retain energy (was done in the 70’s and abandoned).
9. eye monitors to alert you if you start falling asleep at the wheel
10. less cup holders
designated driver!!!
I don’t know about space-age gadgets – the ones I have now are more than enough for me to cope with while I’m supposed to be concentrating on driving. My suggestions are more earthly.
A car that could run on water or even air, would make a huge impact on reducing the stranglehold on most of the world’s countries by the oil-producing countries – not to mention making running a car less of a luxury.
I would like an illuminated message board device for conveying messages to other road users, such as “You haven’t got your lights on” or “Your dress is trapped in the car door and is blowing in the wind” or “I just saw you throw that banana skin out of the car window, you filthy pig” … that kind of thing.
An express/instant de-mister would be great.
A wide-angle reversing aid (not mirrors but a screen in front of you) would be handy, as would a device which let’s you know when your front or rear bumper is within an inch of a wall or other obstacle when parking.
Perhaps these last two/three items already exist but only on top-of-the-range cars or commercial vehicles.
something that will tell you when you are reaching the point of no return to the nearest gas station.
I want a tricked out car like the Aston-Martin in the James Bond movie “Goldfinger”, only a little more cutting edge as of today. Having a passenger ejector seat would be a nice touch and an effective way to settle arguments while driving. Having a car that could rise up and fly 20 feet over the traffic would come in handy. When GM comes out with a hover craft SUV I will be one of their new customers.
I just want a heated back seat.
LOL
deep fryer
What would pass the time better on a long road trip than some french fries?
you would also need a ketchup holder along side the cup holder.
I refuse to answer this question on the grounds it would incriminate me!
Crash Avoidance Sensors Which would automatically slow down the vehicles avoiding crashes.
